{UAH} Why Mulindwa and Okello Chose to die in foreign lands?
Why Ugandan Nkuba Kyeyos Choose to Die in Foreign Lands
I would really advocate that government of Uganda makes washing plates and saucepans more lucrative here so that our brothers and sisters do not have to go that far to do the same.
There's a general belief among Ugandans and most Africans that the grass is all green from the Western World and as such some would die or kill to get a visa to go overseas.
The most hidden intriguing thing is that we who are still in Uganda fail to find out how those who have gone are progressing. All we do also is to yawn to be in those western capitals never mind that we may be lacking skills required to secure a descent job.
In my short sojourn abroad I was also tempted like most of you the Africans to stay and look for a job but my Nigerian and Zambian friends kept on reminding me how a respected journalist I was back home in Uganda and it would be sad to find me sweeping streets in L.A.
They cited examples of African brothers whom we used to meet at Metro Stations some just singing for passersby and they put it to me whether I would do a similar thing.
I remember one evening while returning from Virginia I and my friend an IT expert from Nigeria bumped into an Ethiopian guy who approached us to help him with US$10 and when we gave him he jumped up and thanked us like if back home in Africa one can do that if you gave him may be US$2000.
But then the multi-million dollar question is why these people choose to suffer from there other than returning to Africa where they have parents, relatives and a fertile land to till.
The answer lies in what my Zambian friend told me that back home people expect a lot from you if went to Uncle Sam's land never mind what you went there to do.
So to avoid the shame associated with coming back 'empty' handed they choose to remain there and perhaps die there.
For me I choose to come back thanks to my Zambian friend she told me not to waste time there coz as I waste time my contemporaries back home will be progressing i.e building mansions as I waste time sweeping streets.
So my dear brothers the grass is not that green over there.

Without God, our week would be: Sinday, Mournday, Tearsday,Wasteday, Thirstday, Fightday & Shatterday. Remember seven days without God makes one WEAK!!"And if Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it but He, and if He touches you with good, then He is Able to do all things." (6:17)
