{UAH} CORD Senators want Museveni troops out of South Sudan

JAMES-ORENGONAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 19 – Two Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) Senators have called upon Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to withdraw his troops from South Sudan and give dialogue a chance.

Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and his Siaya counterpart James Orengo accused Museveni of sabotaging the peace process in South Sudan with Omar particularly saying that he had taken sides in the conflict.

Omar argued that the Ugandan Head of State should instead pursue a peaceful resolution that will see normalcy return to Africa's youngest nation.

He also accused Museveni of pushing his personal hidden interests in the conflict, challenging him to declare what those interests were.

"We are telling the Kenyan government to ask Museveni to quit fighting in South Sudan with immediate effect. He is the one who is fuelling the conflict by supporting one side," argued Omar.

Orengo added that South Sudan was an independent country and that Museveni had no right to interfere in its affairs.

The two leaders urged the Kenyan government to arbitrate and help restore peace owing to the suffering that has been witnessed so far.

"Museveni is an aggressor and if the truth be told he can only morally intervene in the South Sudan if he can leave alone the Island of Migingo because it belongs to the people of Kenya," accused Orengo.

A huge humanitarian crisis has emerged in the country and thousands of lives have been lost since the conflict started in December 2013.

Kenya has already indicated that it will participate in peace negotiations through the Intergovernmental Authority on Development.

Talks between individuals associated with President Salva Kiir and those associated with former Vice President Riek Machar have not yet kicked off.

Many South Sudanese people have fled into Uganda, Kenya and other countries waiting for calm to return.
