Fwd: {UAH} QUOTE OF QUOTES: John L wishes Tony Owana a merry season
Robert Atuhairwe
No. She was never my girl-friend. As Chairman, I had access to the visitors rooms- I think we had two- so I kept the girl there for a week until I could send her back to some secondary school in Masaka and I never saw her again, nor Joseph Kiggundu.. That is the reason I was so keen to meet Kiggundu because I wanted to get an explanation. But as Owana informed me, the man died in 1992. But she was not the only girl I gave shelter within the compounds of Livingstone Hall. I also allowed a Rwandan student to keep his sister in the Hall, they were both refugees and the sister, who was attending secondary school in Kampala, had nowhere to live. Most controversially, I allowed some two female military cadets to stay in the visitors room for about a week as well. The students got shocked, seeing women dressed in military fatigues walking up and down the lawns of Livingstone. they were good fun, although I got upset when some of the DP students started to claim I had "armed guards" in the hall. But they were just visitors, just like all other visitors that we sometimes accomodated for short durations.
I don't have a child with a Ugandan woman therefore as I have never had a Ugandan girl-friend. My daghters are from Filipino and Nigerian mothers. My daughter is being sanctioned at school for being "disruptive". I am trying to ensure she does not follow in my footsteps because I got suspended or expelled in almost every school I attended, including the Law Development Centre.
I think one of the reasons I have not returned much to Uganda, apart from the political ones, is that I do not have very strong sentimental personal attachments there as most of my family live outside Uganda, a majority here in the UK. If I had left a girlfriend or a child by the time I was forced out of Uganda in 1989, then I might have been obliged for sentimental or filial reasons to return. But now that my last daughter will enter University this year, I will have less parental duties and more time to spend on Ugandan issues.
All of the people Tony Owana writes about were close to me, or at least I knew them at a political level and had constant battles with, especially John Kakooza of the Makererean. I was also aware of their associations with bandit elements- this is what Tony Owana chooses to camouflage as "harrassment" by the UPC government. But I will respond to him later.

Oh really, George? What a lucky left-over girl! Did she 'graduate' to
become the begetter of the wonderful daughter now in question?
