IN SUMMARY

This followed the calling off of elections for their leaders by EC boss indefinitely early last year.

BULAMBULI.

Tension is growing between Bagisu and Shana in Bulambuli District as elections of local council leaders remain in balance more than three years since the Electoral Commission suspended them.
Bagisu insist they cannot belong to Bulegeni Town Council and want to stay in Kaamu Sub-county where most shops and the Kaamu market that would have made up the town council are located.
This leaves Bulegeni Town Council merely a village without shops.
In 2011, elderly women stripped naked before the EC chairperson Badru Kiggundu and his team to protest the postponement of the elections without showing proper demarcations between Kaamu Town Council and Bulegeni Sub-county.
Mr Kiggundu called off the elections indefinitely.

Call to fill vacancies
“We need elections to fill the vacant political positions but the EC is not mentioning anything about it. We are tired of having no political leaders since we separated from the Shaana,” Mr Nicholas Gimei, who was leading the protesting residents, said on Tuesday.
The minister of Local Government, Mr Adolf Mwesige, accompanied by the LC5 chairperson, Mr Simon Wananzofu, on February 16, 2012 granted the town council to the Shana after the Bagisu rejected it, preferring a sub-county.

The RDC Bulambuli, Mr Nabende Wamoto, said for security reasons, the district security team decided that they cancel the elections until further notice.
The EC registrar for Bulambuli, Ms Christine Kunihira, had earlier said she would not yield to residents’ demands for elections but would wait for the EC to decide on the matter.
