{UAH} M7 Oyeeee as Lyantonde Referral Hospital In Sorry-State

The minister of Primary Health Care and general duties, Hon. Elioda Tumwesigye, has revealed that Lyantonde main hospital is in a desperate situation.

The Minister who visited the hospital together with staff from the ministry of Health recorded a poor status of the theatre, lack of equipment and tools in the maternity ward, inadequate staff accommodation, lack of male and causality wards, surgical for both male and female, no intensive care, placenta pit, a tiny mortuary, no toilets and the population of the patients outnumber the available resources like the beds, health workers, medicine, among others.

 

"If Lyantonde hospital that serves five districts lacks enough facilities and health workers, what about the four Government health centre III's and the thirteen health centre II's?" wondered Hon. Tumwesigye.

The district Chairman LC5, Fred Muhangi, told the Minister in a humble manner as he chaired a meeting headed by the area woman MP Hon. Grace Rutemba, that each year, the district has been receiving PHC development fund amounting to Shs 152m for almost seven years.

 

"This amount is used to construct staff houses at the hospital, improve on health centre III's and II's and equip both medical centres in the district which is not  enough to do everything," Muhangi noted hence requesting the ministry to top up on this amount.

 

"At first, distinction was given to the Government of National Resistance Movement (NRM) when they promised to provide free medical services to the Ugandans. This was introduced in the 2001 manifesto which was paramount to their victory after getting the majority votes but today, things are not moving as promised," pointed out the area woman MP, Rutemba.

"The fact is that, Lyantonde health centre III's and II's in the six sub counties; Kinuuka, Mpumudde, Kashagama, Lyantonde rural, Kaliiro and of Lyantonde town council have been built but the services are still poor due to poor payments of health workers characterised by low and delayed payments, lack of motivation and so on."

Hon. Tumwesigye observed that Lyantonde was among the eight districts which he lined up in his book to be helped by the Chinese in health facilities including constructing health premises.

 

Facilitating the hospital with an ambulance is still impossible. The ones given to the hospital lack fuel or have old tyres and are parked at the district headquarters.
