{UAH} MUBS BOSS WRANGLE: WHO IS FOOLING WHO?

The latest from Makerere University Business School( MUBS) in Kampala is that there is no wrangle between the Principal and his Deputy. Yet the latter has been quoted and cited as accusing the former of sidelining and under-looking him. This is a public institution. Whereas we would appreciate a 'reconciliation'  between the two individuals as persons, the two offices need defined and delineated roles separated. MUBS itself is emerging out of the long-drawn wrangle with MUK over autonomy, itself an issues or individuals and resources. We cant afford to 'cover the shit and harvest mushrooms' as one ancient proverb says. The truth is that at some point either the stench will come out, or the mushrooms carried home will be germ-infested, courtesy of the covered 'truth'.  The problem of Uganda is the failure to build systems and institutions. We now are burdened with an-all powerful presidency because the current constitution was framed with a mindset skewed to an individual, oblivious of the strange reality that human beings do change.

Let whatever efforts are being made at reconciliation go beyond the two individuals, dig out the entire institutional and systemic issues at MUBS and throw them out for all to see: if they are clean, we toast, if dirty, we clean the dirt and keep the assets. That is how institutions are built.

Mediation by elders between individuals works fine but has its limitations.
