Folks,
Mbu: The Army is non-partisan and their role is to defend the country against its enemies. If you have a problem in your party, you sit down and resolve it," he explained.
What a contradiction!
The South Sudan Government yesterday penned a ceasefire agreement with rebels in Addis Ababa, calling for an end to fighting within 24 hours, and a cessation of all hostilities to give the citizens the deserved peace. According to the President's Special Assistant for Communication, Ms Sarah Kagingo, Mr Museveni made the remarks yesterday at State House Entebbe. "President Museveni said the UPDF was deployed with the mandate of IGAD after a request by the South Sudan Government to rescue civilians from being killed in a conflict that had seen many South Sudanese lose their lives," Kagingo notes. "He attributed the success of UPDF in the war-torn countries of Somalia and South Sudan to the forces' strict discipline." "In Uganda, once a soldier commits a grave offence such as murder, rape and defilement, he is tried and sentenced by a court martial witnessed by residents of the area where the offence is committed," he said. The President further noted that he had been talking to both the Government of South Sudan and those against them, to end the war. He said it was wrong for political leaders to involve the Army in their disagreements sowing the seeds of division, hatred and tribalism in the forces. "Don't involve the soldiers in your problems. The Army is non-partisan and their role is to defend the country against its enemies. If you have a problem in your party, you sit down and resolve it," he explained. The national forces continue to serve the republic of South Sudan until peace is full realised. -
