{UAH} Thugs Rob New Year Offertory From Church

Police in Mubende is hunting for unknown thugs who attacked Kasambya catholic parish offices last night and robbed UGX 3.5 million and other property.

The parish under Kiyinda Mityana diocese is located at Kasambya trading Centre, Kasambya Sub County in Mubende district.

Abaine Enock the Mubende district police commander says police was called to respond to an attack at around 2 am, but the thugs had already left the scene.

Abaine says information obtained from the priests indicated that the thugs broke into the Parish office and later broke into the priest's residence where they stole UGX 3.5, and other items like cloths and shoes.

The church is in a distance of about one hundred meters from the priest's residence and offices, where the robbery occurred.

Abaine adds that police has since then sealed off the crime scene and massively deployed around Kasambya trading center in search for the thugs.

Kasambya catholic parish priest Fr Steven Lusiba says the money was collected as offertory during the New Year masses and was to be banked on Friday.

He explains that the thugs took over an hour sorting out what they wanted to steal and during that time, they could not make any phone call. They could only make phone calls after the thugs had left

Lusiba added that although office equipment was stolen, the items inside the church building were intact.

On Monday this week thugs broke into the Kyengeza catholic church of Kiyinda Mityana and stole items, including the public address system, and lights.
