UGANDA: Food Panda Targets Uganda Tanzania After Successful Funding

Online food delivery marketplace Foodpanda and its affiliated brand Hellofood will be expanding to eight more countries including Uganda and Tanzania following a successful $20 million funding.

The startup received the money from Phenomen ventures among other investors and now plans to reach an overall 40 countries by the end of March including: Croatia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Tanzania and Uganda getting the company's footprint to 4 continents.

These are just but one of the many developments that the start-up is launching months after the launch of the iOS and Android mobile app.

According to co-founder and global managing director Ralf Wenzel the expansion targets the rising markets all over the globe while the funding shows the level of trust with investors.

"We are currently the most globally prominent online marketplace for food delivery, active and rising in Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. Having acquired the trust from experienced investors we will be able to continue our growth strategy to become a truly global internet brand."

He adds that the company continues to expand its market share in countries it has a presence even as its betters its customer service.

In East Africa foodpanda already has a footprint in Kenya and Rwanda.

Foodpanda has a partnership with over 22,000 restaurants globally and was the beneficiary of $8 million in funding from iMENA Holdings last year.
