| Vetting Officers Up to £42k | London
Every person who works with the Security and Intelligence Agencies will have gone through a rigorous vetting procedure to ensure their suitability and trustworthiness to work in this environment. As one of our Vetting Officers you'll play a key role in helping us to recruit the best, most appropriate people to protect the UK's interests.
What you'll do
You'll be carrying out extensive interviews with existing staff and potential new recruits who have applied to work with us. Each interview is highly detailed. You'll need to explore everything about the applicant; family history and social life, to financial affairs and personal relationships to gain the necessary reassurance about the individual.
All this time you'll be looking to compile a consistent life story and identify possible risks without making value judgments. Then you'll produce a written report on your findings, flagging any significant issues and making a risk based recommendation on whether or not to grant a security clearance.
What you'll need
You'll need to be able to put people from a range of backgrounds at their ease, gain their confidence and get them to talk openly and honestly about all aspects of their lives. Every interview will pose different challenges and test the full range of your skills and experience, from dealing with people who are open and engaging to those who are shy and defensive. To be able to discuss someone's presence on and use of the Internet, you will need sufficient understanding of the Internet enabled world.
It's a highly complex role that will stretch your extensive people and communication skills to the full. But most importantly, you'll be an excellent listener with the focus to assess the significance of what you hear. Your assessments will have a significant impact on people's lives and careers. In each case you'll need to remain professional and unbiased, assessing everything in the context of our mission to protect national security. You will also be able to convey your recommendations succinctly and clearly in your written reports.
