Museveni Strategists Investigate Mbabazi, Bukenya over the Possibility they could have Instigated the Youth to Protest Kaguta’s 2016 Sole Candidature
By Stephen K Muwambi
Â
Premier and NRM Secretary General Amama Mbabazi and the ruling party Buganda region Vice Chairman, Prof Gilbert Bukenya are being investigated over their alleged role in the party’s youth league disapproval of the Kyankwanzi resolution endorsing President Yoweri Museveni as the 2016 sole candidate.
Museveni’s strategists led by two young emerging powerful ministers are behind the investigations that seek to find out whether Mbabazi and Bukenya could have instigated the NRM youth league members to rebel against the resolution passed by 280 NRM MPs at Kyankwanzi.
“We suspect the two to be the invisible hand behind our youth since we know they nurse presidential ambitions,†a source privy to the investigations told us.
Bukenya openly expressed his intention to take on President Museveni come 2016 and has already established clandestine committees to do ground work well ahead of the awaited year.
Meanwhile, Mbabazi signed the resolution endorsing Museveni as the sole candidate, though Kaguta’s strategists still doubt his truthfulness owing to several intelligence sponsored by the NRM chairman team that established the Kanungu man was actually interested in the legendary sweet chair.
“Either Mbabazi or Bukenya could have sponsored the youth rebellion in revenge for missing out as the NRM official presidential candidate,†our sources argued.
Museveni’s strategists are taking keen interest in the NRM youths’ avowal to support the Premier’s  candidature against the party MPs’ resolution, saying it was telling of who could be behind the ‘ rebellion’.
Though the strategists said no immediate punishment would be meted out on Mbabazi and Bukenya, if it turns out true that they instigated the protest, they added the two would be fought politically and the President would be advised strongly to drop Mbabazi in the next cabinet reshuffle.
