Old drums power Uganda's digital leap
In 2011 we brought you the story of Uganda’s digital drums - solar-powered computers that provide education and health information to communities in rural areas.
The device was named one of Time Magazine’s 50 best inventions of the year.
Now three years on, the drums have internet connectivity - and many other features.
An old oil drum with a built-in computer, preloaded with information on health, education and job training, it opened the door for children in rural Uganda to learn without physically being at school.
Today, 17 percent of Uganda’s 35 million people are computer savvy and have taken a leap forward.
Watch our inspiring report in the gallery above.
