Details Emerge how President Museveni is Under Intense Pressure to Drop Premier Mbabazi as a Plot is Hatched to woo Unsettled Nandala Mafabi for the Big Job

By Stephen K Muwambi

Uganda President Museveni’s own Think Tank is intensely pressuring him to drop his friend of many years and alleged political foe of late, Premier Amama Mbabazi and several of his sympathizers in cabinet.

This is after the Think Tank members found what it calls credible evidence indicating that Mbabazi is actually plotting to unseat his boss Museveni come 2016 general elections.

Headed by a shrewd political brain, the Think Tank argues that though Mbabazi dismisses reports suggesting he is actually nursing Presidential ambitions, there is credible evidence to suggest he is actually hugely interested in the Presidency and working clandestinely to land it.

Nandala Version

Meanwhile, we have learnt that plans are in high gear to court out-of favor FDC strongman Nandala Mafabi to replace Mbabazi as Premier in a bid to stop the man from splitting the votes in the Bugisu region and also to deal a blow to the FDC political fortunes.

In case Nandala deal fails to come through, sources privy to the matter confided in us, Mbabazi’s sworn nemesis, Gen Severino Kahinda Otafiire, with whom they battled for the SG slot and was allegedly cheated, is likely to be elevated to the Premiership and Amama shown the exit.

Some of the Evidence

Because of the Think Tank’s latest findings on Mbabazi, we learnt from reliable sources, President Museveni decided to snub Mbabazi’s request to meet a delegation of 4000 people and sub-county chairmen in Gomba on early last week.

Mbabazi had personally mobilized the delegations and Ggombolola chairmen for the President to give them tips on strengthening the NRM at the grassroots. “Indeed, H.E would not respond to a short notice he forwarded him and hence finally, he (Mbabazi) would personally meet the masses, a day before Buganda Katikkiro went to the same place for ‘Ettafaali’ Project,â€

“Your Excellency Mbabazi has not been on the ground for a long time. In fact he has been accused of being aloof and choosing to work from Kampala. How come he has woken up now and when the Katikkiro was going there?†the Think Tank head asked the President while he dissuaded the NRM chairman from what he called Mbabazi’s foolery.

The Team warned the President against addressing the delegation, saying Mbabazi wanted to use the same as an endorsement for him to go around the country, mobilizing other groups in readiness for his 2016 Presidential campaign and then later call Museveni to address them as his ( Museveni’s) campaigners.

The family

Whereas Mbabazi is trying to play out of the picture for his ambitions, his family members have religiously opened their mind against the person of President Museveni. It is actually rumored that Mbabazi would reluctantly drop the idea but his wife and family members are on his case.

It was his daughter Lilian Mbabazi who started it all, to the point of positive ‘abusive’ messages towards the First Family members. Jackline Mbabazi, the Premier’s wife is also known to use her slot as NRM Women league boss to canvass support for her husband.

And just after the NRM members currently at Kyankwanzi endorsed President Museveni as the 2016 flag bearer, his London based sister-in-law Alice Ruhindi (Jackline Mbabazi’s sister) posted on a friend (Drew Dembe)’s wall, a comment warning Museveni.

She stated thus; "I laugh & roll to the garden when I hear that NRM flag bearer was selected at Kyankwanzi. Even my cats Monty & Hardy think it is funny. See you at Nambole"

Masiro cash

While the Think Tank recognized that Mbabazi was right to contribute to the reconstruction of Masiro, being a national and international heritage, its head questions the timing.

“Why did Mbabazi wait for the President to donate and also donate and moreover on the same day. How come that he gave more than a half of what the President donation yet he is known as a mean guy when it comes to donations?†quipped the Think Tank head.

During Buganda Katikkiro’s contribution drive in Gomba, President Museveni contributed Shs15m while Mbabazi donated Shs9m. Mbabazi’s dime was delivered by one  Ziad Ssebuliba, the Lubaga Division NRM Chairman.

According to the Think Tank head, Mbabazi donated the Shs9m in order to draw Mengo and Baganda to his side ahead of the 2016 do. By donating Shs9m, it’s the Think Tank’s view, Mbabazi wanted to show he is more generous than Museveni who has more money than him.

“Mbabazi a renowned frugal man cannot have paid such big sums without ulterior political motives,†the Think Tank head opined.

Nadduli prophesy

The Think Tank refers to an incident in the past when, Luwero District Chairman and NRM guru on Buganda Affairs, Hajj Abdul Nadduli told the President in the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting to discard Mbabazi because he was out to grab his seat.

“Omusajja oyo akwekulubeseezako ku lusegere, era ng’omuyita munno, taliiko kirala kyakwagaza okuggyaako okutwalako entebeyo,†the Think Tank sources quoted Nadduli as prophesying in the past.

This is loosely translated, “That man seated near you and whom you mistake for your confidant, is out to grab your seat.†With reports that Mbabazi is interested in Museveni’s seat refusing to go away, Nadduli’s prophesy is reported to be repeatedly echoing in the President’s ears and urging him to swing the axe of late.

Looming sack

The Team also advises that Cabinet Ministers Daudi Migereko, Asuman Kiyingi, Karooro Okurut and Chief Whip Kasule Lumumba as well as Jessica Alupo and many others, be dropped alongside Mbabazi for being so loyal to the man.

However, they advise on the other hand that Kiyingi be rehabilitated and retained for his role in neutralizing Speaker Rebecca Kadaga in Busoga region where, she is reportedly building a power base to take on President Museveni as well.

Overall, we can only conclude that Mbabazi’s fate is in President Museveni’s hands. He may choose to drop him or rehabilitate him and retain the man from Kanungu.
