South African hotel holds Nigeria Supporters Club members over debt
Some members of the Nigeria Sports Supporters Club were on Saturday prevented from checking out of their Waterfront Suites abode in Cape Town, South Africa, for alleged failure to pay bills running into 10,000 Rands (about N200,000).
The supporters Club members, about 14 of them, were exiting Cape Town to Johannesburg where they would connect an 8.45 a.m. Sunday flight to Lagos; but were held up in the hotel from about 10:00 a.m. (check-out time) to about 1:45 p.m. Nigerian time (2:45 p.m. local time).
Attempts by PREMIUM TIMES to get officials of the Supporters Club to comment on the issue were unsuccessful as they were engaged in frantic attempts to clear the mess.
The President General of the club, Rafiu Oladipo, was said to have departed South Africa to Lagos after the Nigeria versus Ghana semi-final match of the ongoing Africa Nations Championship, CHAN.
The supporters eventually resolved the matter after PREMIUM TIMES reporter left the scene.
The Super Eagles will take on the Warriors of Zimbabwe in the third-place match of the CHAN on Saturday.
