Two Ugandans missing after qualifiers

07 February 2014, 23:51

New Zealand immigration officials say they will deport two Uganda cricketers who went into hiding last week after playing in a World Cup qualifying tournament.

Faruk Ochimi, 18, and Raymond Otim, 27 couldn't be found when the Uganda team was due to leave New Zealand on January 30. Their visitor visas have expired and Immigration officials say they will be deported when they are found.

The men went missing in the North Island town of Whakatane where Uganda was based during the ICC World Cup qualifiers. Uganda finished last in the 10-team tournament, losing all six of its matches.

Immigration officials haven't confirmed reports the men may try to seek political asylum.
