Clarification on the Observer story – There is no scheduled programme for the President in Kabale
March 21, 2014
Refer to the story, “Museveni to attend Mbabazi function,” (The Observer Friday, March 21, 2014) in which the paper claimed that the President has invited himself to a thanksgiving ceremony of the Hon. Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s father-in-law in Kabale.
This is to express our outer disappointment with the kind of reporting by your reporter who decided to indulge in hearsay and went ahead to publish claims he could not substantiate.
President Museveni is not in the habit of inviting himself to any ceremony. Even where he is invited, his protocol and diplomatic offices always schedule HEs programmes which are then communicated to the administration of Statehouse for facilitation. There is no scheduled programme for the President in Kabale this weekend.
While the media, using `anonymous’ sources and political wannabes such as Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda, is desirous of creating and imagining situations that would disparage the person of the President, it is only fair that they remain impartial in their reporting and be open minded to hearing the other side of the story.
