{UAH} PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.

Dear Folks, a friend of mine has just shared this unfortunate incident with me and I think its very useful that I also share it with all,
PLEASE TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS, CRIMINALS ARE COMING UP WITH ALL SORTS OF TRICKS.

From a friend:

This is an incident which I felt I should share with you and if possible request you to  share with all your friends and relatives. Yesterday as I was driving on the road near Police Headquarters in Naguru, two men on a Boda Boda frantically  waved me as if there was something dangerously wrong with the front of the car because they were at the same time pointing at the front of the vehicle. I imagined something was wrong so I stopped. The motor cyclist parked a little ahead and one of them came running to inform me how one of my front tyres was about to get off. This surprised me because I had not felt anything out of the ordinary while driving. He then told me how he was a mechanic (He was also wearing an overall like what mechanics usually use) and asked me if I had a wheel spanner so that he could help me check the fault. I told him I had one but I think he noticed that I was not convinced, so he told me that if I wanted to confirm he would drive a short distance as I observed the tyre myself. Somehow something inside me told me there was something fishy about this Man, I looked at where the Boda had parked and I noticed that it did not bear a number plate. Immediately I got 5,000/= and gave it him and I told him it was in appreciation of his time and effort to warn me and I told him I was going to call my Mechanic to handle the fault. He thanked me and they rode off.

I checked the tyre myself and it seemed firm enough so I drove and reached UMI and asked one of our Security Guards to observe the tyre as I drove around to confirm if something was wrong to which he told me there seemed to be a slight inclination as a drove. I called my mechanic who drove around and I did not see anything wrong. That's when I told the Mechanic the whole story.

The mechanic then told me that they were car robbers and that of recent they have been using the same trick to steal cars from Drivers who hand them car keys willingly never to see them again.

I confirmed with a friend of mine working with CPS who told me that I probably survived because I parked near police Headquarters, He said they have received numerous reports of car theft using that trick and that they are usually armed such that as long as you stop they try to convince you but if you are not convinced they put you at gun point take away your car and Mobile handsets to minimise your ability to report immediately and at worst they  take you with them and drop you off at an isolated area away from the main road.

Please be aware that some of those good Samaritans may not be that good. That they target those who are driving by themselves. That if anyone points out something as being faulty on the vehicle especially when it's getting dark, you should not stop but drive to the next fuel station and check it from there.
