Kampala- The Anti-Corruption Court yesterday gave the State one month to bring a witnesses to testify against Mr Godfrey Kazinda, the jailed former principal accountant in the Prime Minister's office, or have the case dismissed for lack of prosecution.
He is on trial on new charges of causing a financial loss of more than Shs20 billion to government and abuse of office over Shs300m in the Office of the Prime Minister.
The case had come up for hearing but the State lawyer, Mr Paul Lakidi, asked the trial magistrate, Ms Sarah Langa, for an adjournment, saying the main prosecutor was sick.
Warning
"Since sickness is not called for and being the first time to seek an adjournment at the beginning of the hearing, court will adjourn the matter to May 12," Ms Langa ruled.
"However prosecution is warned that if they do not proceed next time, this court will be left with no option but to dismiss the case," she added.
But Mr Kazinda's lawyers objected, saying they were ready for the trial.
Mr Kazinda is jointly charged with three other officials from the Ministry of Finance Bright Atwiine, David Mugisha and Wilbert Okello.
