Rebels Overrun Renk, Edge On Paloich Oil Fields, Bor
Rebels say their forces under direct command of Brig. Gen. Chegai Gatluak and under overall command of Maj. Gen. Gabriel Tangiye finally took full control of Administrative Headquarters of Renk County, in Upper Nile State.
According to a statement from Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, Military Spokesperson for SPLA/SPLM in Opposition, "our forces triumphantly marched on Renk town on April 23, 2014 after overcoming little resistance".
The fall of Renk, the bread basket of Upper Nile State and the gateway to neighboring Republic of Sudan leaves government troops trapped in Malakal with no supply and escape routes and paves the way for "our forces to capture Paloich oil fields within days".
"The SPLA/SPLM once again renews calls for oil companies to stop production and evacuate staff/employees to avoid being caught in crossfire."
Gen Koang also claims that SPLA suffered heavy material losses after a futile attempt to advance their positions at Dolief Hills in Panyikang County.
He says at the battle of Dolief Hills, SPLA lost equipment and armaments including; Six RPGs, One 82MM, 47 PKM light machine guns, One Toyota Land cruiser mounted with 12.7 and one Urol mounted with Zu 23 and four Lorries.
Bor campaign
"In Jonglei State, our forces under direct command of Maj. Gen. Dor Manjur and under overall command of Maj. Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual continue to make territorial gains as they march on Bor."
Rebel forces on April 23, overran Werenyol in Twic East County after "successfully defeating government troops and UPDF units that were attempting to regain control of Duk County".
"The attacking forces fled in disarray after losing 238 servicemen and 220 different types of weapons including the latest CQ5.56MM automatic rifle," continues Gen Koang.
