Contrary to popular belief, the Buganda regents were not forced but bribed into signing the 1900 Uganda (Buganda) Agreement. Katikiro Kagwa received 20 square miles and 100 cows; Mugwanya and Kangawo received 15 and 10 square miles respectively.
