Convention Youth Program To a large extent, some of the challenges faced by organizers have included budgetary constraints and a vision of what the youth-generation want to see and do during the convention. Envisioning, developing and executing an exciting and fulfilling program for our UNAA youth members has always been a tremendous challenge for convention organizers and, quite frankly, one we have never really done very well in the past. True there have been memorable forums and activities here and there, but all in all, no one convention stands out as having presented an exceptional program. The organizers of the upcoming UNAA San Diego convention are working hard to address this challenge within even tighter budgetary constraints than before. What is for sure is an unshakable commitment within the organizing committee to present a truly memorable experience for our sons and daughters.
Over the past few years convention organizers have reached out to parents of children who regularly attend UNAA conventions for input as to what kind of forums and/or events their children would like to see at the conventions. Here is a response from one mother with 3 teenage boys. Dear Youth Committee Members, I didn't forget my assignment I have asked my kids and other kids what they would like to see or do at the convention. And the answer is they want their own dance, want to be allowed inside the ballroom for the last dinner or have a kids ballroom dinner with their own entertainment. Ask concierge desk and see what they have in the neighborhood in the vicinity. They need to see more of our cultural dances from all over Uganda. Have a class in our cultural dances during the day. I hope this will help. To gain a further understanding as to the kind of program that our youth members would like to see at the upcoming San Diego convention, we would like to invite youth members and/or their parents to communicate directly back to us with ideas and recommendations. At some point soon, it is our hope to host a teleconference directly with youth members to work out some of the details.
