Mayiga Comes under Scrutiny after it Emerges He Spent USD80, 000 Only to Collect USD30, 000 from Dubai
By Team Investigator
Some members of Katikkiro Charles Pater Mayiga’s “Ettoffaali†campaign have raised the red flag about the efficacy of some of the on-going trips after it emerged that the Dubai drive was a total loss in the business sense.
Talking on condition of strict confidence, our sources said the drive realized only USD30, 000. This was against USD80, 000 the Katikkiro reportedly used on air tickets and other expenses for his forty-member entourage.
If such was the case, it will mean that the “Ettoffaali†project lost a total of USD50, 000 on the Dubai project. It goes without question that this is a lot of money to be thrown and a bad deal.
Ettoffaali project being financed by public money, our sources opined, and “The Dubai debacle makes a strong case for the Katikkiro to appoint economic advisors to strategically advise him on future such trips before embarking on them.â€
Because the Katikkiro drive has been largely successful, our sources noted that Mayiga has been given a free hand to carry out the project as he wishes.
“It’s why the Katikkiro perhaps moved with a whole forty people on whom lots of money was lavished and a paltry sum was realized. In future, the Katikkiro should respectfully speaking think about having the money from outside the country wired on the Ettoffaali accounts in banks. That way, it would save the public money such as that spent on the Dubai trip and others that may prove unsuccessful in future,†our sources argued.
Other than wiring the money direct on the Ettoffaali project bank accounts, our sources said it would be wise in future for between five to six people to accompany the Katikkiro to wherever he could be going for donations in a further interest to save money that is spent on a bigger delegation.
“It is needless pointing out that spending Ettoffaali funds economically is one of the core requirements of Oweekitiibwa Mayiga’s obweruufu (transparency) slogan in regard to use of public funds, our sources said thoughtfully.
Adding that, “its why spending much money on a fundraising that turns paltry sums should be a matter of concern for the Mengo establishment,†our sources argued.
The latest disclosure comes against voices questioning the endless ‘Ettoffaali†fundraising. Writing in Observer, a lady claiming to be a muganda belonging to the “Ngonge†clan wondered why the drive continued beyond the then charred Kasubi Tombs to the Masengere Plaza within the Bulange background.
During his interface with journalists after the last Lukiiko meeting at Bulange, some journalists asked Mayiga when the fundraising would stop.
A frantic Mayiga told the journalists that the drive would continue as long as well-wishers continued to “invite†him for more money.
