Miracle: They don't come better than Don Moen

Charlotte Kutesa Kainerugaba possibly has every reason to be thankful; her father, foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa was days away from being confirmed president of the UN General Assembly.

Her husband is the powerful Brig Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Her father-in-law is president of Uganda, and while others bemoan stepmothers from hell, hers is a prayerful woman. Little wonder then, that when Don Moen opened his June 3 worship seminar at Lubaga Miracle Centre with his popular Thank You Lord, Mrs Kainerugaba was one of the first people to shoot to their feet excitedly.

Pointing her index fingers to the heavens, she sang and danced along. Attending the seminar hosted by the American praise and worship leader was the best decision for most of us in attendance.

Unlike the concerts at Serena hotel (June 1) and Makerere sports ground (June 2), the thousands of participants at Lubaga came with notebook and pens, hoping to pick the anointed praiser's brain. In fact, it turned out better than the concerts, because whenever Moen took a break to worship in some of his popular songs, it was like he was being backed by a powerful mass choir.

See, most in the congregation were worship ministers from various churches. You can imagine how we struggled to outdo one another with our altos, tenors and sopranos. But it sounded awesome and I saw Moen wipe away tears at some point.

But the best part of the afternoon was when he imparted knowledge and left us richer and better.

"There are no stars on this platform. Learn to work as a team and not overshadow one another," he said, nailing the problem in most choirs on the head.

He encouraged pastors to also be worshippers in truth and spirit, regardless of their vocals, because, "If your pastor is a worshipping pastor, you will be a worshipping church."

He taught about submission to authority, respecting time limits and being real to who you are.

"If you must imitate something, imitate Christ. You can't be Alvin Slaughter, or Israel Houghton or Darlene Zschech. God never anoints who you want to be; He anoints who you are. Be yourself."

I can't wait to share the details with the choir I serve with at New Jerusalem Deliverance Centre Church. He shared about how it is not always smooth for him, like the time he fell off a stage with his grand piano as he performed, but managed to laugh it off and continue with the ministry.

When all was said and done, the congregation that included gospel music greats such as Isaiah Katumwa, Exodus, Julie Mutesasira as well as pastors Robert Kayanja, Imelda Namutebi, Steven Mutesasira and Peter Ssematimba joined Moen, Lenny LeBlanc and the band in worship.

We sang along to LeBlanc's Above All and There Is None Like You, and Moen's Arise,Sing For Joy, God Will Make a Way and crowned the session with God is Good, which drew an encore.
