{UAH} Pope addresses and blesses 350,000 on three consecutive occasions

Yesterday Sunday June 1st 2014 St Peter's Square was invaded
by an estimated 150,000 or more to join Pope Francis for the Easter season
Regina Caeli prayer. Pilgrims came from many parts of the world. And they
broke into heavy applause at the appearance of the Pope. He spoke about the
Feast of Ascension which testifies to our salvation as Christ went to His Father
for His reward and also to prepare our place there. He added that the gift Christ
gave to His Father was the nature of wounds He received during passion. and that whenever
the Father looks at those wounds He quickly forgives us our sins and failings.
The Pope's words were very warmly received by the vast enthusiastic crowd.
The Pope also spoke about the very sad events going on in the Central African Republic and asked
for prayers to save a people and a nation.
He further commended the peace effort in Syria.
Late in the afternoon the Pope went to Rome's Olympic Stadium to meet and pray with the more
than 50,000 members of the Charismatic Renewal from 55 different countries who had gathered there
for an annual reunion. He requested them to spread their gifts and experience to many other parts of the
world.
Last Wednesday, May 28, 2014 was the general weekly audience attended by another 150,000 persons in
St Peter's Square. He called for the unity of all Christians as he spoke about his recent pilgrimage to the
Holy Land where, according to him, he was very well received. He thanked the authorities in Jordan, Palestine,
Israel, and the Franciscan Fathers whose congregation looks after the Holy Shrines, for having enabled his visit
to be a great success. He noted that one of the reasons for the pilgrimage was to commemorate that lapse of
50 years since the historic meeting and accolade between Pope Paul VI and the then Greek Orthodox Patriarch of
Constantinople. This time the same gestures were repeated between Pope Francis and the current Patriarch of
Constantinople, Bartholomée, with whom hed prayed at Christ's empty tomb.Amid a very wild applause the Pope stated that
himself and Patriarch Bartholomée were brothers. He then recited a Hail Mary to call for peace in the Middle East and confirmed
that he had invited both the Israeli and Palestinian presidents to the Vatican for prayers for peace in their region.
Peace in the Middle East, the Pope noted, was the second goal of his trip to the area. He implored the Almighty to
bless Jordan, a country which has given a lot of itself for aiding millions of refugees from all over the region. He commended the
Jordan authorities for that marvellous act of generosity!
The third reason for the trip, according to the Pope, was to comfort the Christians in their courageous daily life in a difficult context.
Among the many groups present at the audience were pilgrims from Frfance, South Africa, Israel, the Philippines, Indonesia, England,
Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, Canada, USA, Sweden, and several other countries including small groups from many
African countries.
Pope Francis continues to receive very regularly a stream of heads of state, royals and eminent personalities from all over the world.
Monday, June 16, 2014 he will host the Archbishop of Canterbury who is a notable friend to Pope Francis.
More trips are anticipated this year for USA and for Sri Lanka and the Philippines where he is expected to say Mass before an
estimated 5 million people!
On the return plane from the Holy Land the Pope answered a number of questions posed by journalists present on the flight.
One was about the possibility of allowing priests to marry. In reply the Pope observed that since priestly celibacy wasn't a dogma
of the church, there was therefore a possibility of a debate on the issue. Of course this is a big question which demands a lot of
reflexion because it isn't easily feasible seeing seminary syllabuses changed to allow for parallel instructions, one geared on priestly
training and another centred on forming future priests on running and managing a family and all implications involved therein, etc....
And other questions would come to scene, for example the budget to run the families and to educate the children, etc... In any case
all these items will be strongly debated when the question of married priests sees the day in the Catholic Church!!
Another important question put to the Pope on the plane was the possibility of glorifying wartime Pope Pius XII now that his immediate
successor Pope John XXIII has been canonized a saint and his immediate long time collaborator Pope Paul VI is to be beatified this
coming October 2014. The Pope tactifully replied that a miracle performed thenks to the intercession of Pius XII was still being awaited.
Some observers hinted on the possibility of canonizing a saint Pope Pius XII immediately after his beatification had gone through.
There are many claims of miracles obtained through Pope Pius XII and that just only one of them needs to be retained by the Pope in
order to proceed with the beatification. Pius XII who was a thaumaturge and who even miraculously cured the lame, the blind and the
cancer victims simply by giving them a blessing, is rated with a number of great miracles since his death in 1958. And Pope Paul VI
had worked out an arrangement to eventually canonize him with Pope John XXIII. It isn't his state of holiness that is delaying his beatification,
it's mainly the need to study all files bearing letters, documents, reports, etc... on that crucial World War II period. These documents whose
pages number in millions are consigned in the great special archives which the Pope has authorized to open now instead of waiting for
2028, the date specifically set for their official opening since that's the period marking the lapse of seventy years from Pius XII's death.
Very many observers, including the Jesuits who have been charged to study Pope Pius XII's life, believe nothing new and controversial
will come out of the secret archives. they all know that Pius XII was a very careful person with strict self discipline that always prevented
him from committing even the slightest error on anything formal or informal! His visions have been studied. this is a man who frequently saw
the visions of the Holy Virgin Mary and it's even claimed he once saw Jesus christ Himself appearing to him when he was suffering from a
terrible malady in 1956. He quickly recovered when he saw the vision.
