{UAH} 154 pages long containing 57 amendments to the constitution

Snippets of government proposal for constitutional reform (leaked document dated April 22, 2014. 154 pages long containing 57 amendments to the constitution). All the amendments seem to pronounce doom to justice.

1. Amend article 26 to provide for powers to compulsorily acquire property for investment.

2. Create a special court to try terrorism and other crimes of national security.

3. Amend article 83 to allow MPs expelled by their political parties to loose seat and give political parties the right of recall of MPs after 24 months in parliament.

4. Amend article 143 to reduce the years of qualification for one to qualify as a judge of the high Court from 10 to 7.

5. Amend article 212 to give the president powers to regulate the police in public interest.

6. e.t.c

The quality of rule of law in any 'democracy' depends on the quality of laws in place. From the time govts discovered their legislative powers, the very noble ideal of rule if law was to be threatened. We have seen govts deliberately moving to control what seeks to control them as well. It's sad that we are continuously moving towards formal or the thin rule of law and disregarding substantive rule of law. In the end, these things are not sustainable since they are not founded on any sound values but seek to please the few in authority. They will come back to bite us.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that  we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic  and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
