IN SUMMARY
The process of retirement and termination of contract within the
military is governed by the Presidential Order No 32/01 of 03/09/2012
establishing Rwanda Defence Forces Special Statute.

The Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) has for the second time organised a
send-off ceremony to honour the service and sacrifice of 843 personnel
who have reached retirement age or whose service contracts have come
to an end.

In his speech at the ceremony held early last week, Gen James
Kabarebe, Minister of Defence, praised the retirees for their personal
sacrifices, service rendered and contribution to the country.

"You have all contributed to the liberalisation of Rwanda personally
and collectively at various stages," said Gen Kabarebe before adding
that retirement is a normal phase for those in the military.

RDF Chief of Defence Staff Gen Patrick Nyamvumba also commended the
retirees for their service and contribution to RDF. "I thank you for
your dedication and selflessness in service," said Gen Nyamvumba.

On behalf of the retirees, Retired (Rtd) Lt-Gen Charles Muhire
expressed appreciation to the Commander-in-Chief and the entire RDF
community, saying that even as they retire they are confident that the
younger generation will carry on the good work.

Retirees

Those who received their retirement certificates from the Minister of
Defence were Lt-Gen Muhire, former Air Force Chief of Staff Brig-Gen
Dr Norbert Kalimba, Col Munyaneza Muzungu, Col Michael Nkurunziza, Col
Charles Shema, Col Martin Ndamage, Col Callixte Kanimba, Lt-Col Thomas
Mpezamihigo and Lt-Col Eugene Rutagengwa.

The process of retirement and termination of contract within the
military is governed by the Presidential Order No 32/01 of 03/09/2012
establishing Rwanda Defence Forces Special Statute.

René Ngendahimana, the deputy defence and military spokesperson, told
the media that all the retired officers and servicemen and women will
each receive a send-off package worth the equivalent of their
respective gross salary for 36 months.
