{UAH} Bukenya claims he's under arrest: Police say not true

Folks;

I think Bukenya is still finding himself. Obviously, the transtion from VP to a political activist is taking its toll on this colorful former Number Two.

KAMPALA.

Kakiri police station commanders and his officers are in dilemma after receiving orders from their 'superior' not to arrest Professor Gilbert Bukenya, who has pitched camp at the station after his supporters were arrested over traffic related offences.

Prof. Bukenya stormed the police station on Friday afternoon allegedly demanding for the immediate release of his supporters but when the officers refused, he asked officers to detain him alongside his supporters since he was involved in transporting them to his home.
Prof. Bukenya told Daily Monitor on phone that he is under detention which police denied.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Mr Patrick Onyango, said Prof. Bukenya isn't under arrest since he has no criminal case.

"We haven't arrested him. He came demanding for the release of his supporters but when the officers refused, he insisted that he should be detained with them. Our officers have instructions not to arrest him," Mr Onyango said.

However, a senior officer from police headquarters in Kampala has reportedly instructed Kakiri police commander not to arrest Prof. Bukenya saying that he wants to make political capital out of the incident.

Kakiri police commanders have been ordered by Kampala Metropolitan Police commander, Mr Andrew Felix Kaweesi, to issue express penalty tickets to the driver of the vehicles that were carrying Prof. Bukenya's supporters and release them immediately.
