The first Ugandan immigrants to arrive in North America were mainly students with very little extra money and simple life styles. Photographs of gatherings of Ugandans 20, 30 and even 40 years ago for the most part showed people with slender bodies and athletic builds. However, as the socio-economic standing of our community evolved and become more affluent, so too did the overall diets and level of exercise degrade. By some estimates, as many as 1 in every 4 Ugandans living in North America today has, or will at one time face a major health issue such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes or cancer. Indeed, this number drops to 1 in 3 Ugandans over 50 years old. The Ugandan North American Association is pleased to present a major forum at its upcoming convention in San Diego focused on improving both the individual and general health of our members and communities. The forum will feature presentations and discussions on the following. - General life style standards for healthy living
