It was during a breakfast meeting organised by lawmakers subscribing to the Parliamentary Forum on Non Communicable Diseases at Imperial Royale in Kampala that one female MP hailing from eastern Uganda surprised her colleagues when she suggested that some MPs are hooked on marijuana and all sorts of illegal substances.

The MP said some of these members even sniff these dangerous narcotics during plenary sessions, where they pretend to be sneezing but are, in fact, trying to camouflage their actions.

"Wait, I will one day show you the ones that I see, especially when there is a controversial debate on the floor of the House. They will shout loudest during Parliamentary debates," the MP said.

Following the mysterious death of former Butaleja MP Cerinah Nebanda, allegations of some MPs taking drugs came up.

The President insisted the dead MP had knowingly or unknowingly been keeping the wrong company of either drug suppliers or users.

Neanda's boyfriend Adam Kalungi was accused of supplying the MP with drugs and subsequently sentenced to four years in jail. However, Mr Kalungi was in July this year acquitted and released by Court of Appeal after he challenged his conviction and sentence.
