Despite a particularly low turn out, this small-margin victory will embolden and validate CORD in several ways.

First, ODM is not a party of loud, sore losers anymore; it's a party that engages in topics that resonate with the voters. 

Secondly, ODM is not a Luo party, as has been portrayed by some, even in this forum. This new MP is not a Luo.

Thirdly, ODM is not a Nyanza or Kamba or Luhya party. It's a national party whose appeal spans the tribal landscape. In fact, this young man's victory is repudiation of Jubilee, for the president had invested his office time to campaign for the losing candidate.

While it's common and normal for any president to try to win one for his team, this defeat, coming in barely a year into office, tells you that the honeymoon for UhuRuto is over, and voter remorse has set in. Otherwise, a Jubilee candidate would have won such elections by a landslide.

Now you may understand why Jubilee is uncomfortable with the calls for referendum!
