{UAH} Peaceful and inclusive societies a condition for stability, security and development

In my brief resume or bio that I circulated yesterday I indicated that I studied World History on my own after the first year of undergraduate education when history was taught to me by Professors Ogot, Kieran and Were at the Nairobi campus of the University of East Africa. Since then I have studied history on my own not to memorize events, dates and people involved but to draw lessons about what conditions have brought about stability in some societies and not in others.

The case of Mexico after the 1910 revolution and the chaos that followed for two decades is instructive. Mexicans realized that they needed to work together regardless of their professions and social class. The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) that was created in 1929 is a coalition of peasants, urban workers and military interests. Eventually the armed forces were taken out of politics. This arrangement has brought about stability that has facilitated development. Mexico is an OECD member.

This is something that Ugandans need to study and see what lessons can be learned, adapted if necessary and applied to our country. Let us begin to think about Uganda and her people first instead of ourselves. Let us also drop the idea that some are superior to others.
