UGANDA BEATS PUERTO RICO AT WORLD CHESS OLYMPIAD

Uganda's male team beat Puerto Rico 3-1 in the ninth round of the World Chess Olympiad in Tromso,Norway as incumbent FIDE President, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was reelected for a 4 year term after trouncing former World Chess Champion, Garry Kasparov by 110 - 61 votes.

In the Uganda - Puerto Rico game, Patrick Kawuma, Arthur Ssegwanyi and Mathias Ssonko beat FM Almedina Rivera, IM Montalvo Ros and Santana Otero respectively.

Ssonko has done well in his last three outings. The win however put the men in the line of fire as it ensured that Uganda is now pitied against Grandmaster studied Greece in the tenth round.

In the ladies category, Uganda narrowly lost 1.5-2.5 to New Zealand as Goretti Angolikin put in a solid display to draw with WCM Milligan H. on board one. Phiona Mutesi notched the other win for Uganda against Timergazi L. as Christine Namaganda and Ivy Amoko lost to WIM Meyer Morany and WFM Tsoi Nicole.
