Dear All
The Daily Monitor has a story where senior citizens of this country, also known as the elderly people, have drafted a petition to send to Government seeking equal treatment with every human being.
Coincidentally, The Elders Foundation are to launch, today, September 26, 2014, their Foundation at Pope Paul Memorial Centre.
The theme of the launch is, "Keeping the elders strong, relevant, and useful to the nation"
The petition to be presented to Government asks Government not to regard the elders as a spent force, but to grant them social protection."
The petition should also be sent to all Banks in Uganda, especially Barclays Bank which discriminate against the elders by denying them loan facilities claiming that any person above 60 is likely to die any minute therefore if a loan is advanced to them the Bank will lose its money.
The banks seem to be blind to the fact that anybody, even young people, do die any time.
Banks are not ashamed denying elderly people loan facilities even when the elderly present very secure securities like land titles valued at over 300 million shillings and yet the elder man, or woman, wants only a small loan of only five million shillings to pay school fees for the nation's children.
