{UAH} Media Freedom: One Stone That Hit Many Birds. (Reposted)
"In fact, if we want to identify individuals who are hindering the
development and economic growth of any country, it is simply those who are
restricting freedoms. They should be treated with total contempt.
The natural tendency in backward communities is to silence criticism. That
culture not only needs to disappear, we need to fight it all the way and
our leaders need to learn to accept criticism.
Incidentally, the media itself has an undeniable role to play in
guaranteeing that it does not participate in the limitation of freedoms.
Allowing pressures that silence the media to gain ground and submitting to
those pressures is, therefore, tantamount to supporting despotism and
betraying a nation.
Anyone whose role it is to guarantee rights and freedoms, should be at the
forefront of fighting any political interference in the media without fear
or favour, whether it is angry threats by a government official or abuse by
the opposition."
