President advises on poverty eradication
President Yoweri Museveni has called on the youth in Uganda to use all the available channels that have been put in place by the National Resistance Movement government such as the Micro-finance, Youth Livelihood Programme as well as NAADS, among others, to access development projects in order to be able to generate household income for the benefit of their families.
He urged wananchi, especially the youth, to use their land profitably by embracing farming to ensure that each homestead has avenues for income generation. He said that each homestead should have an acre of coffee, another for bananas and the third for chicken and piggery adding "that way they would be ensured of homestead income which the NRM government has been preaching for years."
The President was speaking at celebrations marking International Youth Day that was held this afternoon at Wakiso district headquarters. He reminded the people of Uganda, particularly the youth that the remaining challenge is poverty and unemployment since the country is peaceful. He said that the NRM government is not a Party of propaganda for it fought for peace for every Ugandan irrespective of the different political persuasions.
"Uganda is now peaceful; the remaining challenge is poverty and unemployment", he said.
President Museveni advised the electorate to always vote for people who support government development programmes so that wananchi's development is ensured.
Earlier, the President commissioned Wakiso Masjid Noor mosque and made a contribution of Shs.20million towards the completion of the project.
Youth State Minister, Hon Kibule Ronald commended the President for the youth development programmes and said the programmes are tailored to benefit the youth without discrimination.
Wakiso district LC 5 Chairman, Mr. Matia Bwanika, saluted President for the Government's programmes that he said are designed to benefit wananchi. He called for more funds to enable leaders deliver tangible results to the masses.
