Someone is in serious trouble. A top comedian/actress goes to a presumably reputable outpatient clinic in New York for a routine peek into her intestines. The doctor decides that since nothing was interesting in her abdomen, he should cut a piece of her suspicious throat for tests - she develops a laryngospasm (collapse of the part of the airway at the back of the mouth) - asphyxiates - dies in a couple of minutes. For God's sake - are there no anesthesiologists in New York? Was there nobody to do an emergency intubation? Answer: Whoever was monitoring the woman's breathing must have dosed off and by the time he/she woke up, the woman was long dead. But most likely it is not the spasm but some cryptic thing called 'vaso-vagal shock' caused by 'touching the wrong nerve' in the neck. It is known to cause immediate cardiac arrest in some people. I only watched her shows a few times.....developed love for her and therefore join the others in mourning her death. RIP Joan
