{UAH} State House feud: Kagingo runs to police
Under jaws: Sarah Kagingo
The Police Special Investigations Unit has opened an investigation into a case of threatening violence and physical assault against Maj Edith Nakalema, President Museveni's private secretary.
Police records at Jinja Road Police Station indicate that Sarah Kagingo, a special presidential assistant on communication, filed the case registered as SD 03/24/08/2014. This record suggests that the case file was opened on August 24. A State House source has told The Observer that the alleged assault incident happened last month at State Lodge Nakasero on the sidelines of President Museveni's meeting with some MPs from eastern Uganda.
The case was later moved from Jinja Road Police Station to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) base at Kireka. Deputy police spokesperson Polly Namaye said the case had been transferred to SIU because of its special character.
"SIU has issued Police Form Three to the complainant to go for a medical examination and our action will be based on the medical recommendation from the doctor," Namaye told The Observer on September 6.
Namaye further said that Kagingo had been advised to report back to SIU after getting the medical report so as to record a statement.
"We want her to give us detailed information on how she was kicked, when and where the incident occurred. It is from that information that we shall decide whether to arrest the suspect or not," she said.
According to police sources, some people have already recorded statements on the matter, including the President's Principal Private Secretary, Mary Amajo. The Observer last week reported on the feud amongst some State House media staff. The State House website and President Museveni's social media platforms are at the centre of the much-publicised conflict.
The feud pits Kagingo against Linda Wamboka Nabusayi, the deputy press secretary, and Charlotte Turatun ga, the private secretary in charge of ICT. Although State House Comptroller Lucy Nakyobe said last week there were no plans to move Kagingo from her current position, Nakalema was last week quoted by an online publication as saying Kagingo had been sacked.
What remains unclear is Museveni's position on Kagingo's fate. Maj Nakalema, who is fast rising as one of the most influential and trusted presidential aides, hosted President Museveni at her home near Mbabara for a thanksgiving event last week.
