{UAH} Emulate Mazrui's deeds
Folks:
Tomorrow one of Africa's greatest public intellectual -oh yes-will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mombasa. I know what to expect from UAH but let me say this: It is a real shame that UAH could treat Professor Mazrui's legacy and contributions the way it did. I am sure we have his former students in UAH but they too chose to say nothing about their great teacher. I hope many are going to Mombasa to mourn and to not bury Mazrui's ideas. His ideas will surely live on for generations. Not long ago Africa lost Chinua Achebe. Now Professor al Mazrui. I have no time for the usual suspects in UAH on Mazrui for I know an intellectual when I read from him or her, okay.
I hope Makerere university can/will organise an intellectual forum to examine the late Mazrui's contributions given the symbiotic relations between the two. He benefited Makerere and vice versa.

Emulate Mazrui’s deeds
The burial of Prof Ali Mazrui on Sundday at a 900-year-old cemetery in Mombasa marks a milestone in the legacy of a great Kenyan that not even death can take away. Following his death on October 13 in New York, tributes have been pouring in, reaffirming the status of the good professor as a giant intellectual.
Prof Mazrui captured the world’s imagination with his knowledge and ideas, relayed through his exceptional writing and oratory skills over the last five decades.
His works have revolutionalised African studies in colleges and universities around the world and helped to impart knowledge to hundreds of people.
Further, his political commentaries added value not just to expansion of democratic space in Kenya and other African countries.
Even in death, the professor remains a champion and continues to command global respect.
We hope his life will be emulated and will provide valuable lessons for generations. It is significant that his burial comes on the eve of Mashujaa Day when Kenya honours her heroes.
We urge the various government agencies tasked with ensuring today’s funeral, which is expected to attract hundreds of mourners from all over the world, goes on smoothly to do their part. Fare thee well, Prof Mazrui.
