Gen Otafiiire: We'll Not Allow Museveni's Fall

NRA bush war historical and Minister for Constitutional Affairs, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire has warned he will not look on idly as "someone in NRM" continues to fight President Museveni "from left, right and centre," adding the crumbling of the NRM government would plunge the nation into turmoil.

Otafiire is a close friend of the President and is known for speaking his mind without fear.

He is among the few NRM leaders who can openly criticise president Museveni.

Otafiire at one time threatened he would cause "trouble" if kicked out of the cabinet.

On Friday this week, Otafiire, said a top NRM leader, whose name he deliberately refused to mention, "spends all his time pulling Museveni's trousers. Uh? What is this? This person is there pulling our leader's (Museveni) trousers to fail him. Take it from me, we will not allow this person to continue like this," charged Otafiire.

He was speaking at the delayed independence celebrations of           Bushenyi District at Nyakabanga playgrounds, western Uganda.

"We have taken a decision that this man will not overthrow our leader. Don't I quarrel with Museveni all the time? But have I ever pulled his trousers like this man is doing? Fighting our leader has consequences," he added.

Otafiire is thought to have been referring to sacked Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, whose allies, police recently accused of engaging in clandestine mobilisation campaigns ahead of the 2016 presidential elections.

Mbabazi was this weekend grilled by the NRM's Central Executive Committee for reportedly undermining the party chairman, frustrating recruitment of new members and hiding the register of party members.

Mbabazi denies reports he intends to stand for President in 2016 but Museveni's strategists believe the once powerful 'super minister' is not being absolutely truthful.

Otafiire fought in the NRA struggle that toppled Milton Obote and the military junta of the Okellos.

Mbabazi was then involved in mobilising funds and logistics in the external wing of the movement.

During the same function, Gender Minister Mary Karooro Okurut castigated "some people who want to remove our leader from power. We will fight and defeat them," she noted.

In a related development, there was drama in Luweero on Sunday when Mbabazi appeared at the Wobulenzi church fundraising event.

Luweero NRM boss, Abdul Nadduli earlier this week said he had "banned" Mbabazi from Luweero, accusing the former premier of undermining Museveni.

On arrival, Nadduli said the president gave him a cheque of shs10m which he presented to the church.

However, Mbabazi said he was the genuine representative of the President and that the latter handed him shs20m cash to deliver to the church.

Mbabazi also announced his family donation of shs10m.
