Nurses rally in California for proper Ebola training

Amid the fear of the Ebola outbreak, US health workers have staged rallies against the lack of proper training for medical staff when treating possible Ebola patients.

Nurses from throughout California poured into the streets in bright red T-shirts, carrying placards that read "Stop Blaming Nurses."

A Texan nurse, who treated Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan, before he died, has been infected with the virus.

Authorities are blaming the hospital staff, saying breach in safety protocol resulted in the second infection.

Representative for the US largest nurses union, Bonnie Castillo, said hospitals in the US are not ready for the outbreak, nor are they prepared to protect the people who may be called to fight the deadly infection in the affected countries.

"What is really important to note is that the guidelines the Center for Disease Control want us to follow are insufficient and inadequate,” she said during a gathering of nurses in Oakland, adding that “we have to get those things corrected."

She relayed the message hours after health officials confirmed the nurse became the first person inside the United States to contract the Ebola virus.

The nurse was in stable condition Sunday afternoon, according to Texas health officials.

On Friday, the World Health Organization announced that more than 4,000 people have died of the Ebola virus. There is currently no known cure for Ebola, which is a form of hemorrhagic fever with diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding as its symptoms.
