Relatives and friends have praised the works of Can. Simon Peter Bwajojo and described him as a devoted Christian and loving parent.
This was during the requiem mass to celebrate the life of the late, held at Namirembe Cathedral on Tuesday morning.
Several top notch UPDF Officials were present as the body of Can Bwajojo laid for prayers.
Among these were former Army Commander Gen Elly Tumwine, former UPDF AMISOM Contingent commander Maj. Gen. Fred Mugisha and Rujumbura County MP Maj. Gen Jim Muhwezi.
Muhwezi who studied together with the deceased's son and exiled former spymaster Gen. David Ssejusa at Makerere University and LDC recounted that Mzee Bwajojo always set the standards high in everything he did which he said made him excel.
Mary Kyamuhanda the eldest of the deceased's children said that Mzee Rwajojo, as was commonly referred to , always welcomed people from all walks of life and showed them love which she said was characteristic of an accommodative
"He loved everyone who came and because of this he changed many people into Christianity in our area," Kyamuhanda noted.
Catherine Bwajojo the widow, described the deceased as a hardworking, trustworthy and straightforward man who loved not only his family but all the people and his country
"I remember when we visited the president and he told him not to be like people who rise to positions of higher ranks and easily forget where they came from. Whenever we went to the president, he never
asked for money from him but rather support to help his own community and always made it clear that he was working for his country and not for his own benefit," noted the widow.
Sejusa speaks out
Former spy master Gen.David Ssejusa and his siblings in their statement read by the family spokesperson David Gureme applauded government for not interfering with family functions stressing that this contrasted the regime with the past ones which persecuted families of their enemies.
The family however warned against mixing politics into the death of their father adding that the deceased's family existed before misunderstandings between their brother and government.
"Mzee Bwajojo's family existed before politics, before Ssejusa became friends with President Museveni, the Luweero struggle, and before disagreements between Museveni and Ssejusa. This family shall outlive any misunderstandings and political situations because nothing can erase blood bonds."
"We hope that there shall be some kind of dialogue between our brother and government to iron out the differences," said Gureme on behalf of Ssejusa's family.
Born in 1925 in Nyabushozi, Simon Peter Bwajojo later migrated to Mawogola current day Ssembabule district before marrying Tabitha Rwajojo in 1942 but she unfortunately passed on in 1978 and in 1982
he remarried Catherine Bwajojo.
Mzee Bwajojo, on Sunday succumbed to a cardiac arrest at Mulago hospital.
Out of the 10 children he had the deceased is survived by 7 the eldest being 64 year old Mary Kyamuhanda. He will be laid to rest on Thursday in Ssembabule district.
