Britain records 693 more coronavirus deaths taking official toll past 29,000 - but separate grim figures show the UK has Europe's HIGHEST fatality count as data suggests the TRUE number of victims could be at least 40,000

• Britain's has had 29,427 victims, meaning it has overtaken Italy (29,315) to have Europe's highest death toll
• US has by far the largest death toll, with almost 70,000 victims, but this is diluted in an enormous population
• But separate ONS data suggests the true number of deaths in Britain may actually be in the region of 40,000
• UK's Office for National Statistics counts anyone with COVID-19 on death certificate, whether tested or not 
• It counted 29,710 deaths by April 24 in England and Wales. A further 2,612 in Scotland and Northern Ireland
• In comparison, only 22,173 fatalities who had tested positive had been counted by the Department of Health
