Teargas, Kiboko Squad In Ntungamo As Besigye Is Blocked At Gospel Album Launch
Police fired teargas and blocked former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader Col Kizza Besigye yesterday in Ntungamo district at the launch of a gospel album.
Besigye was invited to preside over the launch of a gospel album by a local artist, Alice Kyasimire but police blocked the launched.
FDC Women leader, Ms Ingrid Turinawe broke the news on her Facebook page saying police was beating up people and firing teargas at the launch.
"Terror, teargas, bullets, kiboko all live as police blocked gospel album launch and dispersed Christians in Ntungamo today Sunday 5th October," Turinawe posted on her wall.
She said that some of the Kiboko squad people that dispersed Christians at the gathering before the singer could launch her album were dressed in uniform labeled UCP and some in plain clothes including women.
"Police guarded and supervised Kiboko squad who were in uniform labeled UCP (Uganda Crime Preventers)."
She added that nobody was allowed to access a fully paid hired venue and yet the singer has mobolised the event for two months.
Later on the FDC leader is reported to have gone to the nearby banana plantation and proceeded with the launch.
