Generous to a Fault: The Price of Progress

They gave us their beads, mirrors and trinkets
To take our diamonds, our gold and ivory

They gave us their clothing, their guns and sweet resins
To take away our kinsmen, our mothers and sisters

They gave us their education, their politics and religion
To take away our fellowship, freedom and kinship

They gave us their chemicals, elixirs and medicines
To take away our health our life and wealth

In droves, on cruise ships, with drones and gunships
Claims staked on our lands our body and souls

Could we take any more, even when in the know of what's at stake?
Generosity to a fault with genocide the gift?

In a bowl in ma bag and a crimson ribbon
Choking to the last of our breath away

Now we heard it, we are hard hit and had it
Can't be that tough saying we have had enough

Thanks and no thanks
