Dead prostitutes haunt South African road
November 18, 2014 — A South African regional road which has seen numerous mysterious and fatal accidents is haunted by the ghosts of murdered prostitutes, according to many residents of the a town through which it passes
The R50 Delmas road which passes Welbekend and Barcelona, Daveyton and Ekurhuleni has been the scene of many serious accidents, many of them fatal, according to South Africa's Daily Sun.
Captain Lucas Makuwa of the SAPS in Welbekend said: "Only last month there was an accident involving a truck, a taxi and a van when the vehicles caught fire," he said. He also listed several other instances where major accidents took place on the road.
He agreed that there seemed to be more accidents on this road than the other main roads in the area and many residents believe they know why.
According to the residents, the road used to be used by long-haul truck drivers to rest. They also utilised the services of prostitutes or magoshas. Some of the prostitutes were targeted by robbers and sometimes killed in nearby bushes. The residents believe that the spirits of the sex workers are causing the accidents.
Velaphi Nkuna, a resident, said at least four bodies belonging to prostitutes have been found at the spot.
"Their families don't come to collect their spirits and that is why that road is haunted," he said.
When reporters from the Daily Sin went into the bushes they found the remains of what looked like a crime scene. Old police tape ringed the place in the bushes where a magosha was allegedly murdered. Red candles were still in the grass with a razor placed on top of a candle with sewing needles and an empty brandy bottle.
Makuwa confirmed that magoshas had been killed at the place but could not say how many magoshas' bodies had been found.
