31 year-old Eric Kipkemei Chirchir allegedly entered the women's changing room at the Bogota Golf Centre where he works. There he encountered the 15 year-old girl and reportedly touched her inappropriately.
According to the Daily Nation, the girl managed to escape and inform the police about the incident.
When Chirchir was accosted by police, he managed to run from them and quickly covered 8km to his house, leaving behind his bicycle and bag.
"He's fast," Detective Sgt Jon Misskerg of the Bogota Police Department said. "This is one of the world's elite marathon runners."
Chirchir was arrested and charged with criminal sexual contact, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. He is being held pending $100,000 bail. He may also face deportation.
