{UAH} JAMAICA WORST ON THIS: Uganda 8 Traffic Officers Arrested over Corruption

This Baboon got ripped twice for no reasons btwn Montego Bay and Negril, a distance of 76 km getting whooped away with bribes totaling $105 just bcos he didnt carry along the local currency. I couldnt even hit the the tar at overspeed bcos I could have easily found my ass over the cliffs into the wide rough sea. Definition, or rather, job descriptions for Third Word Traffic Cops still defeats me to date.

The newly formed Traffic Police Alert Squad has so far arrested more than eight traffic officers in Kampala Metropolitan region over extortion and other forms of indiscipline.

This was today confirmed by the Director of Traffic Police, Dr Steven Kasiima while addressing journalists at Central Police Station were he noted that these first victims were to be tried in courts of law to answer charges accordingly.

Kasiima revealed that the Alert Squad is headed by Inspector Moses Mutabingwa with the mandate of investigating and tracking down all indisciplined and corrupt traffic officers.

"Within just a week, the squad has been able to arrest more than 8 officers whereby three were from Matugga, two from Zana, one from Buloba, two from Nsangi and others from Kawanda," Kasiima revealed.

He added that all traffic commanders operating from the South Sudan boarder to Bombo were reverted and replaced by new ones who are proving to be more competent.

Kasiima also noted that most check points on the highways were to be removed and that they would only be left at black-spots so as to embark on use of patrols and mobile traffic since most drivers have devised means of dodging the available check points.

This comes a few weeks after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura launched a vigorous campaign against corruption, extortion and bribery that had increasingly become a normal practice among traffic police officers in the country.

Kayihura warned that the world was to turn into hell for all traffic officers that had been using their positions to enrich themselves other than enforcing the traffic road and safety act.
