Miss Uganda Leah Kalanguka joined other beauty queens from all corners of the world for the Miss World competitions in London.

She got in London on Monday for the three-week event under the theme "Beauty With a Purpose" and partook in the different activities on Tuesday.

The grand finale is slated for December 14 but the shocking bit was that the global pageant was preceded by the tragic death of Miss Honduras Maria Jose Alvarado, who was murdered along with her sister Sofia Trinidad, by the sister's ex-boyfriend the evening before she was to be flown to London for the competition.

A remembrance service for the slain beauty queen was held on Sunday in London.

Kalanguka joined over 125 beauty queens and will, among many activities, participate in the Miss World Top Model, Miss World charity gala, Oxford debate, Talent and River Thames party cruise activities. The crown is currently held by Filipino Megan Young.

Kalanguka, 23, a computing engineer graduate succeeded Stella Natumbwe last month amid fanfare at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

This year's Miss Uganda took a different turn and got a winner with rich knowledge of agriculture since the main sponsors were from an agro-based firm, Namunkekera rural industrial centre alongside Mirinda.
