{UAH} Mr. Edward Mulindwa and the rage exhibited against him.

Fellow Ugandans At Heart,

I have followed the postings asking Mr. Abbey Semuwemba to disallow the postings from Mr. Edward Mulindwa to appear here at the UAH. Obviously, such a request puts the moderator in a very 'tight corner', so that the best he can do is to be silent about it.

I shall not waste much of anyone's time reading what I am writing here. I shall be brief.

The UAH is a forum through which Ugandans can exchange their views and even share information that would otherwise be hard to get. Such is the information about our country. What is happening and why is it happening. We usually share the History of Uganda, much of which is sad, but we receive such information with the wish to learn from it and possibly contribute to build a better future for our country.

The truth some times hurts, especially when that truth is negative about someone we love. The history of Uganda attaches some people very closely to some of the former Leaders of Uganda, so that it becomes hard to hear negative remarks about them. Some paint a positive image of some of our former Leaders, so that it seems as though none else matters!

I wrote here some time ago about the time I was a kid in the mid and late 1960s. My friends and I used to go to Kasese town simply to pass the time and we deliberately missed the last Bus that would take us home. We knew that we could go to the Uganda Police for help. The Police always used one of their Land Rovers to drive us home.

Those are the years Uganda had become a 'One Party' state. The UPC was in power and Dr. Apollo Milton Obote was the President of Uganda. I was too young to follow the politics of our country, but was aware that none had the courage to utter any negative word about the President.

At the time, there was an obligatory 'National Service' and I remember very well the misery that it caused. The people had to work six months without pay and that was known as the "National Service". That was one of the policies that made the UPC government very unpopular. Of course, not to mention the abolition of the Kingdoms.

In January,1971 the Army headed by then Maj. General Idi Amin Dada took over in a bloody military coup. The whole country seemed to have run mad with the joy of the news that Apollo Milton Obote had been overthrown.

During the reign of Dr. Obote, the General Service Unit (GSU) was bad news. All the talk about Idi Amin's State Research Bureau (SRB) simply sounded as 'child play'. For those who understand Luganda, here below is one of the songs that tell the story of the Presidency of Dr. Apolo Milton Obote (1967 - 1971).

What the new government of the 2nd Republic under F. Marshall Idi Amin Dada achieved, or messed up, has been discussed here and thanks to Mr. Edward Mulindwa for such a good memory. Of course where I did not agree with his report, I wrote what I believed was the case and there was no argument about it. My purpose was to give the right version of the story with hope that we all learn from our passed mistakes, in order to find ways for a better Uganda.

Bytheway, I was informed some time ago that the Ugandans in the United Kingdom voted for 'The Most Patriotic President of Uganda' and that Idi Amin Dada was the choice.

What I am trying to state here is that we ought to exercise patience and allow freedom of speech, of expression and to encourage our fellow Ugandans to be open minded and without fear. If we are going to exhibit hatred of one another for what one posts here at the UAH, how do we expect to live together in harmony in our country, Uganda?

That's all I had in mind, but do sincerely appreciate all the posts from all the Ugandans At Heart. I wish you all, only the best.
