3 Beninese policewomen beaten and stripped

November 20, 2014 — When they responded to an emergency call in a Beninese suburb, three policewomen did not expect to be beaten and stripped naked in public

The three officers were responding to a disturbance caused by a landlady and her tenant. According to Vanguard, the problem started when the tenant insisted on taking a bath after the police officers had summoned her to accompany them.

The officers refused.

An altercation ensued and was subsequently joined by other residents in the area. The three police officers were beaten and stripped of their clothing.

The landlady claims to have called the police when the tenant refused to respond to a notice to vacate the premises.

But an eyewitness told the Vanguard that the landlady would regularly harass her tenants with the assistance of the police, adding that the woman was taking a bath when the police arrived but was forcefully removed when they arrived.

Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo, who expressed disappointment at the attack, said the police would not take the attack likely. The suspects had already been arrested and charged.
